Who is this chick and why the weird obsession with authenticity?
When I was 42, I was tapped to lead a 9-figure financial company. Sounds cool, eh? Well, the company was kinda in the pooper and I had no idea how to be a CEO.
But after three years at the helm, we were able to triple our earnings while also sending employee engagement skyrocketing.
However, the truth is: I thought I got lucky. I was waiting to be “found out,” because it just seemed a bit too ... dare I say, easy.
It wasn’t until I decided to retire to do something more entrepreneurial that the answer got flung my way.

That’s when it hit me. I wasn’t getting lucky. Instead, I was playing a different game than most other leaders.
I was using authenticity as my strategy.

U: Authentic people don’t focus on doing what’s normal; they focus on doing what’s needed. Adding in unexpected, new ways of doing things is the best way to grab someone’s attention and stand out as a unique leader or company.

M: Shut up and show up. Being authentic means that you’re more focused on a Model Mindset than just a Manage Mindset. That is, you prioritize demonstrating what you want people to be, do, and have rather than just telling them.

A: Since authenticity isn’t actually about you, but rather exposing who you are in the service of others, adapting means that you’re always looking to plug into others.
